GoKnit2a

In our newsletter last week, I announced that we would be selling hand made scarves over the holidays to raise money for PADS, an organization dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness in DuPage county.  The idea is that our customers will donate gorgeous hand made scarves (knit or crochet) and we will sell them to those that want a unique gift, but haven’t learned to make one yet.  All proceeds will be sent to PADS.

I got the idea from SeaSalt a clothing store in England that colllected hundreds of scarves and raised over 2000 pounds for a local charity.  I figured we could do that for our community.  Whenever I have a new idea, I always have that moment of doubt “will people join in?”  But I have to say that the immediate response has been fantastic.  Within hours, Cheryl brought in a bag of beautiful scarves that she had leftover from that “scarf craze” a few years back.  Others came in and bought yarn to make something new. Everyone talked about how PADS is a great organization.

You can join in too.  For every scarf you donate, you will receive an entry into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate.  Also, the person who raises the most money will receive a $50 gift certificate.  You don’t have to be local to participate.  The scarves will go on sale November 27.  Be sure and tell all your non-knitting friends where they can get an extra special gift this year.
