LYS is code for Local Yarn Store, that place where you can stop by for some inspiration, purchase yarn for your next project and learn something new.

I've been thinking about that term a lot in the last few years. What if local isn't just a place, but also a feeling?

I founded String Theory after I lost my brother in the World Trade Center on 9/11. I had turned to knitting to manage my grief and I discovered that working with my hands was both mentally and physically healing. I wanted more people to discover the power of knitting. I also figured that we could use our purchasing power to support small businesses and social justice causes along the way. It’s always been my dream to build String Theory as a community.

In the past few years, we haven't been able to offer you a table to hang out at, but with our Facebook Group, After Hours Instagram, Monthly Social Knit, and our classes, we have strived to offer you community. And this community is beyond my wildest dreams. We are thoughtful, funny, supportive, creative, diverse, and as passionate about making the world a better place as we are about good yarn!

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for being part of it. We love being your LYS!
