Manos del Uruguay Cardo

Manos del Uruguay Cardo is a chunky 4-ply yarn made of 100% non-superwash Uruguayan Corriedale wool. We love this wool for its long and strong staple that has a lot of shine and crimp, which gives the yarn excellent stitch definition and a  knitted fabric that will retain its shape very well. Classic in its construction and hand, Cardo feels familiar and true,  like that beloved place where you like to return for comfort.

100% non-superwash Uruguayan Corriedale wool
Approximately  109 yds / 100 mts per  3.05 oz / 100grs skein
Gauge: 11-13 stitches in 4" / 10cm
Needle: US 10.5 / 6.5 mm Hand dyed

Cardo is the perfect chunky sweater yarn: it knits fast and wears beautifully.  We also love if for this hat and these mittens, because Cardo has great stitch definition and durability.

Impact:
The Manos Cooperatives were founded in 1968, begun by five women whose goal was to develop economic opportunities for women in a country where there were, and are still, few opportunities for work.
With each purchased skein of Manos del Uruguay yarn, you will be helping a woman to support her family. Each skein is signed, so you will know who made your yarn, and from which village it came. You will be supporting the hand-crafted rather than mass-produced, and contributing to an economy where the workers control of the means of production.

Beautiful Color and Drape

I purchased 10 skeins of the Cardo in the Nymph colorway. I am knitting the Ramona Cardigan. I am about 1/3 of the way through the cardigan and impressed with the color and feel of the yarn. It has great stitch definition and is going fast because it's a chunky weight yarn. I love this yarn. The only drawback is that it is pricey. But after finding the unique color and the story behind the yarn, I am so glad I made this purchase.
