LYS Day 2021

In case you didn't know, LYS is code for Local Yarn Store, that place that where you can stop by for an inspiring conversation, purchase yarn for your next project and learn something new.

I've been thinking about that term a lot lately. What if local isn't just a place, but also a feeling?

I founded String Theory after I lost my brother in the World Trade Center on 9/11. I had turned to knitting to manage my grief and I discovered that working with my hands was both mentally and physically healing. I also figured that while we’re happily knitting, we can use our purchasing power to support small businesses and social justice causes, worldwide. It’s been my dream to build String Theory as a community.

In the past year, we haven't been able to offer you a table to hang out at, but with our Facebook Group, our new website, and our virtual classes, we have done our best to offer you community. And this community is beyond my wildest dreams. We are thoughtful, funny, supportive, creative, diverse, and as passionate about making the world a better place as we are about good yarn!

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for being part of it.
