This cowl was designed for Chicago Yarn Crawl 2021 and will be free until August 8.

“It is difficult to say what is impossible,
for the dream of yesterday
is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.”
—Robert Goddard, physicist

Every year during the Yarn Crawl, we highlight a yarn company that exemplifies who we are and what we believe at String Theory. This year, we have two. Our cowl is made with Merino Wool DK from Handspun Hope and Cosette from Dream in Color Yarn. Kits are available here.

Handspun Hope provides meaningful employment to women who survived the genocide in Rwanda. As a result, these women have access to education, counseling, healthcare, nutrition, and housing for themselves and their families.

Dream in Color Yarn is a small business run by friends Nancy and Veronica. I have known them both since our kids were little together at our local Waldorf school. They've moved their business from Illinois to Arizona, but their passion for quality yarns and rich vibrant colors remains the same.

This pattern is a meditative two-row repeat that is easy enough for beginners, but interesting for those with more experience.

The pops of Cosette emphasize the chevron design and provide a lovely contrast of texture and color to the more rustic handspun which has been dyed with items found in Rwanda like onion skins and avocados.

My Dream and Hope Cowl version

I really love this cowl. I started out as the pattern instructs, however, I knit loose so I had to go down in needle size AND eliminate one of the points sections. The cowl is beautiful and I will probably wear it often once it gets colder. These are my colors! Thanks for a unique style.

Dream and Hope Cowl

Hi everyone,
The yarn crawl was fun and I got the pattern for Dream and Hope Cowl. I red the
instructions and it's really spot on and easy. Unfortunately, I haven't started it
because I have three other projects started and need to finish them first.
I should get to my Dream and Hope Cowl within the next two months.
I have to be honest, I'm still dreaming about that extremely soft sock yarn and
as soon as I get a few pennies together you can bet I am buying that yarn.
It was like touching a marshmallow, just heavenly soft!
