Cozy Cuff Mitten

These chunky yarns are knit on size 9 needles so they are extra cozy and hard wearing. The neutral colors give these mittens a classic feel. If you are looking for something a little jazzier, think of the back
of the mitten as a blank canvas for your embroidery or duplicate stitch design.

One skein Classic Elite Blackthorn (120 yards alpaca/wool blend)
One skein Berroco Nanuk (70 yards wool/nylon blend)

Needles: US9 Double Pointed Needles (DPNs)

Notions: 2 stitch markers, tapestry needle

k2tog….. knit 2 together
ssk…….. slip, slip, knit slipped sts together through the back loops
kfb……… increase by knitting in the front and back of the same stitch

Gauge: 16sts = 4” in Blackthorn stockinette

Finished Size:
Adult Medium 8” hand circumference

Cast on16 stitches with double strand of Nanuk. Divide stitches onto DPNs, and join.
K1 P1 ribbing for 2.5 inches

With single strand of Blackthorn Kfb in each stitch (32 st)
Knit two rounds
K1, place marker, Kfb, Kfb, place marker, finish round in knit stitch
Knit round
K1, slip marker, Kfb, knit until one stitch before next marker, kfb, slip marker, finish round.
Repeat last two rows three more times until there are 12 stitches between markers.
K1, remover marker, k1, place 11 st on stitch holder, remove second marker, cast on 3 st over
the gap, knit rest of round (34 st)
Knit 4 inches or about 1inch less than desired mitten length

Divide stitches as follows:
Needle one: 9 st ,Needle two: 8 st, Needle three: 17 st

Decrease Round
Needle one: K1, ssk, knit to end of the needle
Needle two: knit to last 3 stitches on needle two, k2tog, k1
Needle three: k1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches on needle three , k2tog, k1
Repeat decrease round until 5 stitches left on needle 3,
Use Kitchener stitch to finish top of mitten.

Place 11 st from holder onto two DPNs
Pick up and knit 4 st along the gap (15 st)
K9, K2tog, k2, k2tog (12st)
Knit until thumb measures desired length about 2 inches
K2tog all around (6st)

Break yarn. Use tapestry needle to thread yarn through the remaining 6 sts and close the tip of the thumb. Weave in ends. Repeat instructions for second mitten. Enjoy!
