By purchasing yarn from String Theory, you’re lifting up a number of small and female-owned businesses. We help women in Rwanda, who survived the genocide, educate a new generation. We help women in Uruguay find meaningful work without leaving their rural homes. We help a family in New Hampshire maintain a mill, a tradition spanning hundreds of years. We help restore the Patagonia Grasslands by encouraging sustainable farming.Every yarn we stock makes a positive impact.
Introduction to Brioche Knitting with Ann Weaver
Date: Sunday May 21, 2023
Time: 2pm-4pm - Central Time
Instructor: Ann Weaver
Intrigued by brioche stitch projects but intimidated or confused by instructions? In this workshop, you’ll learn one-color and two-color brioche stitch. After two hours of doing brioche, you will feel like a master and will be ready to take on more complex brioche projects if you like. The workshop includes a detailed photo tutorial on working brioche stitch and suggestions for avoiding and fixing mistakes in brioche stitch.
The workshop is based on the Rothko Cowl pattern, which showcases the interactions among three colors in brioche stitch.
Skills needed: Knitting, purling, and working in the round
- Three colors of worsted-weight yarn: 100 yards, 150 yards, and 200 yards
- 24-inch circular needles in Size 6, 7, and 8. We will use only the Size 8 in class.
- You might want to bring a 16-inch Size 8 circular needle to use for your first few rounds.
- Stitch marker
- A copy of the pattern Project Rothko: The Cowl (available for purchase online through Ravelry for $5)
- Tapestry needle
Homework: Cast on 111 stitches and join to work in the round. Knit 1 round.
