By purchasing yarn from String Theory, you’re lifting up a number of small and female-owned businesses. We help women in Rwanda, who survived the genocide, educate a new generation. We help women in Uruguay find meaningful work without leaving their rural homes. We help a family in New Hampshire maintain a mill, a tradition spanning hundreds of years. We help restore the Patagonia Grasslands by encouraging sustainable farming.Every yarn we stock makes a positive impact.
Laneras Barefoot has been so popular that we decided to bring in the thicker version.
Percheron is for those who want to branch out from the classic Merino yarn and experience a new breed. Polwarth has a longer staple length, which results in a smooth, strong and silky yarn with excellent stitch definition that is still next to skin soft. Polwarth is also more affordable wool, as it doesn’t have the high demand that Merino wool has.
Percheron is labeled a DK weight, but works up at a worsted gauge, so would be appropriate for either.
100% Superwash Polwarth

This yarn was so easy to work with! I love the lightly variegated color - my project needed 3 skeins, and I alternated skeins for a while but I don’t know if it was necessary - I didn’t notice any pooling. And look how pretty the twisted ribbing worked up!
First time I’ve knit with this yarn. It’s softly variegated, kind of tonal. Makes it very versatile. It’s soft and slides easily off the needles. Wouldn’t hesitate to use it again.
