Shetland is spun more tightly on the spinning frames (higher turns per inch) so it is highly durable and will wear better and better every year. Don’t let the crunch fool you. It will soften over time and will become a favorite sweater or accessory. Good for weaving, knitting, crocheting. It felts beautifully, softens, and is long-wearing.
Note: this yarn is not made from Shetland wool. Shetland refers to the size of the yarn and not the fiber content. The wool is a blend of Australian fine wool and a hearty New Zealand wool that gives the yarn its luster.
100% Virgin Wool
Shetland: Approx. 217 yards per 50 gram skein (1.75 oz.)
Woolen yarn has been spun in the water-powered, brick mill town of Harrisville since 1794. This small village is nestled in the Monadnock Highlands of southwestern New Hampshire and is the only industrial community of the early 19th Century that still survives in America in its original form.
Shetland combines beautifully with Plied North Ave.
