Location: Lake Ellyn Boathouse, 645 Lenox Road, Glen Ellyn IL

Instructor: Barbara Benson
Cost: $100
We have invited special guest Barbara Benson to teach four classes at the Lake Ellyn Boathouse as part of Glen Ellyn's Festival of the Arts, on August 27 and 28.
Description:
Variegated yarn is a seductive siren with all of its amazing colors dancing in the skein. It entices you to purchase it but when you get it home it sits on the shelf, beautifully, and you agonize over how you are going to make it look as beautiful in your finished piece as it does in the skein. This class will teach you multiple different techniques for working with variegated yarn including how to analyze potential patterns for compatibility.
Skills Needed: Knit, purl, cast-on, bind-off, slip stitch.
Materials: You will need a skein of highly variegated, hand-dyed style yarn wound into a center pull ball (or skein that you can pull from both the outside and center) with a needle of the appropriate size to work your yarn at a loose gauge. Please avoid the following types of yarn: tweed, heavily textured, very fuzzy, super slippery, self-patterning, self-striping, long color change (like gradients or Noro), and speckle dye.
Homework: Cast on swatch used in class. The information for the swatch will be sent out to you closer to the start of class.

Barbara Benson's Bio
Despite the fact that Sarasota, FL doesn’t have ideal knitwear weather, Barbara
loves living and knitting in the South. Self-proclaimed as “a bit silly and a bit nerdy”,
this often translates into her designs. When it comes to the art world, her love for
the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements shines through with intricate stitch work
and swooping shapes.
When not knitting she can frequently be found sailing or playing video games. Author of two books: Mosaic Lace Knits: 20 Innovated Patterns Combining Slip-Stitch Colorwork and Lace Techniques and Big Yarn, Beautiful Lace Knits: 20 Shawls, Hats, Ponchos, and More in Bulky Yarn, she also has an extensive catalog of both independently published patterns and patterns in curated knitting publications.
