Every year during the Chicago Yarn Crawl, String Theory highlights a yarn company that exemplifies who we are and what we believe. We hope our projects will encourage you to spend some time with an excellent yarn and its story. These are some of our favorites from past years.
I love making this cowl. It looks fancy, but is the perfect meditative knit, just a mix of knit rounds and purl rounds. This pattern was originally designed to renew the grasslands in Patagonia. So it is fitting that we now make it with Mitchell Wool DK, a yarn dedicated to improving the grasslands in the Midwest.

Revolution Mitts
Yarn Crawl 2022
These mitts are worked with two strands throughout. They start and end with two strands of Fino. The middle is done with a strand of Fino and a strand of Cabrito.

Yarn Suggestions:
For the hat: One of the more solid Beartooth colors, like Mr. Darcy or Lana Mia.
For the badge and brim: Leftover sock yarn from your Box of Light or other projects. Also, Sister Ananse.
Or try reversing the solid and variegated colors. I think that looks cool as well.

Yarn Crawl 2020
Yarn Suggestions:
The original was knit with a North Ave. Twist held with a mohair. We have a lot of combinations that would look lovely (Mister with Sweat Pea or National Aquarium with Ultramarine). Another option is to use a North Ave. Primary (solid-ish) with a variegated mohair. How about Dark Blue with Dorian, or Fuchsia with Wildflowers?

Yarn Suggestions:
Choose any two contrasting colors of Laneras Deseos or Felicidad. Or make it easy and just get a kit.
