Only at String Theory!
When I travel, I can’t resist visiting new yarn stores in other cities. And the first thing I ask is, “What do you have that I can’t find anywhere else?”
At String Theory, we are proud of our friendly staff, top-notch knitting advice and color-picking help - but we also have a few special items we know you’re not going to find anywhere else.
Migration Yarns: An “only at String Theory” find, Linda Wallace dyes these yarns just for us, in fingering and DK weight, wool and silk blends. You may have seen her work in our store during the Chicago Yarn Crawl, or during the year. Her colors are all limited-edition, so if you see something you love, buy it before it disappears.
Custom colors in Plied: We already carry a full range of colors in Plied North Ave., the light weight yarn that so many knitters are fans of. But we have some colors you won’t find anywhere else, named after the airports that connect our two cities: BWI and Midway. BWI is a gold/ natural twist, and Midway is a honey/ slate mix.
Sister Ananse: We’re lucky to have so many talented yarn dyers in our backyard, and Sister Ananse Yarn, by Naima Bond, is no exception. Her color combinations are eye-popping and original and they fly out the door, whether in fingering or DK weight, or on the “zebra” base. You may have seen her yarns as part of the Good Vibes Yarn Tour or as a special order … or brightening up the shelves.
Blu Fiber Coffee Cherries: Coming to us from Portland, Ore., BluFiber has vivid brights, UV-reactive dyes, and a special colorway developed from a photo of a maturing coffee plant on Janet’s family coffee plantation in Colombia. It’s a variegated mix of ivory, light green, pink and pale brown, available in DK weight or as a set of fingering-weight mini skeins.
So whether you’re a longtime customer, or stopping in for the first time, we know you’ll find something special here.
