Mitchell Wool Co Yarn: sheep to skein

Mitchell Wool Co Yarn: sheep to skein

Mitchell Wool is created sheep to skein in Michigan, so the carbon footprint is small. Sherry, one of the owners will tell you that it all started because she wanted to knit a sweater.  And it turns out she also wanted to help save the wool industry in Michigan.

I love their story and the fact that their yarn is naturally dyed, but what really impressed me was the yarn. We have two kinds: Rambouillet and Cloud (a mixture of BFL and merino).

The Rambouillet in Fingering, DK and Bulky is cottony soft. It has a thick and thin texture, a bit of loft and lots of body, but when it is knit up, it feels like cotton.

I have had such fun playing with the yarn from Mitchell Wool Co. I thought I would share some of my favorite projects (and ideas) so far.

Mitchell Fingering
I made these fingerless mitts in Mitchell Fingering. The would also be lovely in Cloud Fingering, if you want a more elegant look.
Melanie Berg recommends a yarn with character for her Rainshine shawl and I think Mitchell Fingering would be perfect. Beth is making Melanie's Rain on Princes Street in the Mitchell Fingering.

Mitchell DK
I made the Jelka hat by Isabell Kraemer. I stuck with Mitchell for the contrast color, but you could substitute any leftover DK or Worsted weight yarn you have on hand.
I've seen the Robinia Light sweater made up in the Mitchell DK and it is beautiful!
This crocheted cowl would be great, too.

Mitchell Bulky
This yarn is so cushy! I made the Noventa Cabled Hat and loved the way it turned out. It would also make wonderful slippers and mittens. Remember, this yarn is sturdy and not prone to pilling.

Mitchell Wool works with fiber from local farmers to come up with limited edition yarns. Check here to see all that we have in store for you today.
