VIRTUAL CLASS

This class is VIRTUAL at The comfort of your own location

Date(s): March 24, 31 and April 14 and 28

Time:  7:00pm - 8:30pm

Instructor: Liz

Description:  Have you always wanted to knit the Ranunculous sweater but were unsure of how to start?  Or even how to correctly spell it? (we will have a spelling test Ha Ha Ha)  How to pick a size? What type of neckline or sleeve length?   Liz will answer all of those questions and so much more.  You will start the class learning about a gauge swatch and it's importance in knitting a sweater that will fit.  Then you will go through the pattern from start to finish learning the ins and outs of sweater knitting and minor modifications to knit a sweater that you will wear.  The class outline is below.  The instruction part of these classes will be recorded.

  • March 24 - Gauge swatches and how to pick the right size and getting started
  • March 31 - Getting started and going over short rows
  • April 14 - How to check for fit and questions
  • April 28 - Sleeves and finishing

This sweater is knit at a loose gauge and can be knit a bit oversized. You might even be able to finish the sweater shortly after the finish of class.

Supplies:

  • Purchase and have available Ranunculous by Midori Hirose
  • Liz used Ultra Alpaca by Berroco  and Janet knit a Ranuculous using Bocerra Silk.  The sweater states you can use fingering to worsted weight yarn.  Please refer to the pattern for your size and amount of yarn needed  (when in doubt, add an extra skein).  If you need assistance choosing yarn and the amount please let us know.
  • US 8 and US 10 needles in sizes 24" and 40" and maybe longer depending on the sweater size.  The needle size is dependent on what you need to get gauge. You can purchase the proper lengths of needles after you determine the correct needle size to get gauge.  If you are knitting sleeves you will need DPNs, or other needles to knit a small circumference.  The needles needed for the sleeves can be purchased after your correct gauge is established.
  • Stitch markers, tapestry needle and standard knitting supplies.

Homework:

You should knit a gauge swatch prior to the first class.  Detailed instructions on how to  knit this gauge swatch will be emailed prior to class.  Photos courtesy of Midori Hirose
