Date(s): May 17

Time:  1:00pm - 3:00pm

Instructor: Cecelia Campochiaro

Description: This is a project-based class to make a Wriley scarf or shawl. Wriley uses a reversible cable pattern on a checkerboard ground to create an unusual undulating wave pattern. Wriley uses cables, is a reversible pattern, and has a beautiful tubular edges, and all these techniques will be discussed in class. You will be ready to cast on right after class.

Supplies:

  • Basic knitting kit
  • A cable needle
  • 1 ball of solid-color yarn and appropriate needles for swatching
  • The pattern will be included in the class and emailed along with the zoom link.

AFTER CLASS

  • To make a Wriley, about 1300 yards of sport weight yarn is needed. The sample is worked holdingtwo strands together to make a sport weight: one strand is ITO Kinu and one strand is ITO Sensai.  Approximately 3 cones of Kinu and 5 balls of Sensai. The colors of the two yarns should be close or the marl will hide the stitch pattern. The sample is worked with both yarns in color Angora.

Homework: none

Your yarn makes a positive impact

By purchasing yarn from String Theory, you’re lifting up a number of small and female-owned businesses. We help women in Rwanda, who survived the genocide, educate a new generation. We help women in Uruguay find meaningful work without leaving their rural homes. We help a family in New Hampshire maintain a mill, a tradition spanning hundreds of years. We help restore the Patagonia Grasslands by encouraging sustainable farming.Every yarn we stock makes a positive impact.
