Description:

Our Newish Knitter KAL is for knitters who have finished Knit101 and Knit 102 and are wondering what to knit next.  All of these patterns are great places to practice your stitches and learn how to read patterns.  This KAL is also for more experienced knitters who want to socialize with others while knitting a project where you can knit and chat at the same time.

When I teach classes I often get asked the question "what is the difference between garter stitch and stockinette stich?".  So I wanted to design a pattern that will hopefully make you see the difference between these two stitch patterns.  I also added an i-cord edging, my favorite edging, and some twisted stitches so that you can see what happens when you knit into the back of the stitch.  My hope is that this pattern will help you to see the difference in stitches so you better know why designers tell you to do one stitch versus another stitch.  I also tried to make this pattern have a good knitting rhythm so that it is enjoyable to make.  You can make this into a scarf or a double loop cowl, it's your choice.

There is no charge for this virtual get-together, however, we ask that you purchase yarn from the store for this project.    When you purchase your yarn write in the comments section that you would like to be added to the KAL!   Don't worry if you can't make all of the sessions.  We'd love to have you when you can make it.

Supplies:

  • The pattern will be included with the zoom link
  • US 4 or 5 24" or longer circular needles. You might need to adjust the size of your needle based on how you personally knit.
  • We are recommending 1 skein Madelinetosh Woolcycle Sport
  • Basic knitting supplies

Homework: Have your yarn and needles ready.

Prerequisites: Be comfortable knitting and purling
