Craftivism for Hope

Date(s): Sunday November 3

Time: 12:00-2:00pm Central Time

Location: String Theory Yarn Company

Instructor: Shannon Downey

Description:

Join us as we celebrate Shannon Downey's first book with a little craftivism!

Shannon Downey is a renowned artist, activist, craftivist, community builder, and general instigator. She blends her politics, activism, and art into projects that are designed to inspire others to take action. Her first book, Move the Needle, will be published in October. Preorder your copy here.

In this workshop, Shannon will lead us in building a community art project based on her famous embroidery activism.

No previous embroidery experience is necessary! Participants will learn the basics of embroidery while we create a collection of pieces that will be displayed throughout November in the String Theory window. Individual projects will be installed on November 4 and taken home in late November.

We’ll conclude the workshop with a discussion of Shannon’s new book, which empowers readers to craft for social change and personal rejuvenation.

Supplies: Embroidery kits are included in the cost of the class.  Shannon's book is sold separately.

Homework: None

Cost: $60

Your yarn makes a positive impact

By purchasing yarn from String Theory, you’re lifting up a number of small and female-owned businesses. We help women in Rwanda, who survived the genocide, educate a new generation. We help women in Uruguay find meaningful work without leaving their rural homes. We help a family in New Hampshire maintain a mill, a tradition spanning hundreds of years. We help restore the Patagonia Grasslands by encouraging sustainable farming.Every yarn we stock makes a positive impact.
