Description: Learn the art of Estonian Inlay, or Roosimine in this hat workshop! Originating from Tostamaa, this stranding technique has been used for centuries to embellish knitting. Sharing Similar characteristics of stranded colorwork, intarsia, and embroidery, this beautiful technique adds texture and color to your knits. You'll have the option to make a 2-colored hat, or a 3-colored hat with 2-colored Vikkle Braids. We will also cover twisted ribbing, blocking and finishing techniques, and knit the A Short Reprise hat pattern in DK weight yarn!
Supplies:
For the hat or cowl
- 1 skein DK weight yarn approximately 255 yards, MC
- 2 mini skeins or stash yarn approximately 50 yards each, CC (NOTE: 2 colored hat needs 1 MC and 1 CC. 3 colored hat needs 1 MC and 2 CC)
- US 6 16" circular knitting needles
- US 7 16" circular knitting needles
- US 7 DPNs
- Stitch Markers
- Tapestry Needle
- Sticky Notes
- Pattern provided in class
Homework
- With smaller circular needle using the Longtail CO technique, CO 100 sts in MC (off-white in project picture). Join in the round being careful not to twist, pm for BOR
- Rnds 1-10: (k1tbl, p1) to end of rnd
- Switch to larger circular needles
- Next rnd (k10, M1L) to end of rnd - 110 sts
