First Sweater Class - Lakes Pullover (v) - October 25, November 1, November 15 and November 22

Description:  Have you always wanted to knit a sweater but were unsure of how to start?  What's a good pattern? How to pick a size?  How to knit a sweater that will fit?  Liz will answer all of those questions and so much more.  You will start the class learning about a gauge swatch and it's importance in knitting a sweater that will fit.  Then you will go through the pattern from start to finish learning the ins and outs of sweater knitting and minor modifications to knit a sweater that you will wear.  The class outline is below.  The instruction part of these classes will be recorded.  

I like switching up the First Sweater selections because there are so many good sweaters out there. This class will feature the Lakes Pullover because it has saddle shoulders - instead of the sweater draping over your shoulder, there are rectangles knit first for the top of your shoulder and then the sweater is knit, top down, from there, the shoulders will have a little more structure. It is a great classic sweater.

• October 25 - gauge swatches and how to pick the right size and getting started

• November 1 - Picking up stitches on your shoulder sadles, and knitting the top portion of your sweater

• November 15 - checking the length and picking up the sleeves

• November 22 - binding off the body and sleeves and blocking

The Lakes Pullover by Ozetta is a classic pullover.  It is a great pattern to follow as your first sweater. It is knit with worsted weight yarn and should knit up quicker than most sweaters.   You might even knit it up in a month!

Supplies: 

• Purchase and have available Lakes Pullover by Ozetta: Hailey Smedley

• Liz used Ewetopia Sustainawool please refer to the pattern for your size and amount of yarn needed  (when in doubt, add an extra skein). No sales pitch here but I would highly recommend purchasing an extra skein of yarn especially if you might be thinking about making your sweater longer, your sleeves longer or any other minor adjustments.

• US 8 needles in sizes 24" and 40" and maybe longer depending on the sweater size.  The needle size is dependent on the size to get gauge. You can purchase the proper lengths of needles after you determine the correct needle size to get gauge.  AND you will also need a needle 3 sizes smaller than your gauge needle for the collar and cuffs. You won't need this needle until the end of the class so you can wait to figure out your main needle first and then purchase this smaller needle when you need it. We'll talk about this more in class.

• Stitch markers, tapestry needle and standard knitting supplies. 

Homework: 

You should knit a gauge swatch prior to the first class.  Detailed instructions on how to  knit this gauge swatch will be emailed prior to class.
