Tricks and Tips for DPNs with Lucy Neatby

Date: Sunday March 16

Time: 12pm-2pm Central Standard Time

Location: It's virtual

Instructor: Lucy Neatby

Description:

This class is recommended for knitters and knitters confident of knitting and purling and want to gain more confidence in using Double Pointed Needles (DPNs).

If you have ever tried knitting with DPNs or circular needles (which are simply longer, floppy, dpns), have experienced difficulties or would simply like to try some new ideas, this is your chance.  DPNs are ideal for socks, mittens and other small portable projects.  Discover how to cast on without twists, slip stitches at high speed, keep track of your stitches and work without ladders at the corners.  DPNS are not just for circular work either!  Lucy will discuss the many types of needles available and how they might suit your knitting style.  Learn I-cord and other uses of DPNs.  Practice using one long or two circular needles in addition to or instead of straight DPNs.

Supplies:

  • 20 grams worsted weight yarn (4-6 sts per inch) in two colors.
  • A set of 5 DPNs in a size to suit your yarn, US 6 or US 7.
  • Optional - two circular needles of a similar size one of any length, the other at least 40 inches long.
  • The usual knitting paraphernalia.

Homework: None

Lucy has been an adventurous knitter since she was 17. She is originally from the UK, where she was a navigating officer in the Merchant Navy. She has lived in Nova Scotia for the last 33 years. The Fleece Artist in Halifax, gave her the opportunity to teach classes (30+ years ago) and she discovered her passion for sharing the engineering marvels of knitting. She has not stopped spreading the joy of Happy Stitches since! She is known almost as much for her taste in colour as for her friendly, detailed, technique-rich knitting patterns, and her particular fondness for double-layer knitting."
