Description

Ever look at your knitting and say, "What happened THERE?" or panicked as a dropped stitch ran down? Have you picked up your knitting project and wondered, "Where am I in the pattern?" or "How many decreases/increases have I worked?" Or the dreaded, "Why did this end up too big/too small??" This is the class for you! Divided into two sections, "Knowing Where You Are" and "Identifying and Correcting Mistakes," this class teaches you how to "read" your knitting—to recognize what you are looking at, where you are, and what to do next, whether that means correcting a problem or moving ahead! This class is specifically designed for less experienced knitters and will make you a more competent and confident knitter.

Skills Needed

Participants must be proficient at casting on with the basic long tail cast-on without assistance, and do basic stitches like k, p, yo, k2tog, p2tog.

Homework

Two swatches using worsted weight yarn in light or medium color and size 7 needle: CO 20 sts for each swatch.  Work each swatch for four inches. Make one stockinette swatch (Knit a row, purl a row, repeat both rows.) and one garter stitch swatch (Knit every row.)  Bind off and block the swatches.

Materials

Worsted weight wool or wool blend yarn in light or medium color, Size 7 straight or 16” circular needles,  stitch markers, locking stitch markers or knitter’s pins, Knitter’s Repair hook or a crochet hook (size F or G is best), Ruler, tape measure, or Knit Chek (recommended), tapestry needle and scissors, perle cotton or fingering weight waste yarn

This class was so helpful

I took this class a year ago. At first it seemed kind of basic, but it was so helpful. Fixing the mistakes was only part of it. I had been knitting seriously for about a year and this class helped me to learn to really read my knitting. It helped me to figure out what I did wrong, not just how to fix it. Harry is a great instructor and does well on Zoom.
