Sister Ananse Pollinator Collection: DK
We asked Naima Bond to dye us a few pollinators for National Pollinator Week. We pictured a bumblebee. Maybe a monarch. She came back with nine different pollinators: bees and butterflies, a ruby-throated hummingbird, a copper sunbird, a lorikeet, even a flying fox and an elephant hawk moth.
Pollinators do quiet, essential work; roughly a third of what we eat depends on them. With this collection, we hope to increase awareness of their importance.
Naima dyes as Sister Ananse, in Chicago, with the eye of the painter she trained to be — Oberlin, then the School of the Art Institute. This collection is hers and ours alone; you'll find it only at String Theory.
This is her Zebra base: black and white strands plied together, then dyed over. The black holds, so the color reads richer and more layered worked up than it looks in the skein. Naima packs a lot of color into every skein, so yours will be its own — no two alike.
Zebra DK wants a simple canvas. Stockinette, garter, eyelets — anywhere the color can move. Save cables and fine lace for a quieter yarn. It's lovely striped against a semi-solid, or carried just to the edge of a shawl.
