Art! Fiber! Music! Coming Aug. 27-28 to Glen Ellyn!
We’re really excited to be trying something new this year, something on the fringes, something we want to grow.
The Glen Ellyn Festival of the Arts is coming up Aug. 27 and 28, and String Theory got involved to bring in some fiber arts.
Meet the Artists
We’ve invited more fiber artists to participate in the art show this year, including yarn dyers, crochet folks and bag-makers. So as you stroll the booths and admire the pottery, jewelry and paintings, you’ll find a few extra-fibery surprises.
Plan to Sit and Stitch
There’s going to be live music spread throughout the park this year, including performances on the boathouse deck, which is a great place to sit and stitch, conveniently located next to the food and drink booths. We will have picnic tables, but feel free to bring your own comfy camp chair.
Take a Class
Barbara Benson is coming to town to teach four classes over that weekend - if you’ve knit A Good Scarf, you know Barbara Benson. You'll see that whether you’re just starting out, or you’ve been knitting for a while, she's got something interesting to share with you.
Happy Hour
You are welcome (and encouraged!) to Sit and Stitch all weekend long under the pergola with a gorgeous view of the Lake. However, we thought it would be fun to meet up 3 - 5pm on Saturday. The music will be playing. And the company will be lovely....
Join the Fun
We’re hosting a Community Barn Dance Saturday night in the Boathouse. Meg is the caller, (it’s one of the things she does when she's not at the yarn shop). It’s going to be great: live fiddle music, easy dances, good for all - and we mean all - ages. You should come!
Visit Downtown Glen Ellyn
Lake Ellyn is a beautiful park, with lots of big trees for shade. It is about a 15 minute walk from String Theory. There’s a trolley planned to help people get back and forth between the park and downtown Glen Ellyn, with its restaurants and shops. We’re always ready to give visitors our favorite recommendations for lunch or coffee.
Whether you make this a day trip, or treat yourself to a weekend away, we look forward to seeing you all there!
