Newish Knitter Knitalong: September
Our first Newish Knitter Knitalong has been so popular, we decided to make it a regular monthly event.
One of the questions that we get most often from newer knitters is "What should I knit next?" So we designed the Newish Knitter Knitalong to answer that question for you. In June, the Newish Knitters (and several not so new knitters) made the River shawl. In July, we made the Versa Cowl and in August the Held Together Hat.
What are we going to make in September?
The project for the next Newish Knitter Knitalong is the Usonian Shawl. This is an asymmetrical triangle shape with several different kinds of stitches to keep you interested and learning something new.
What is a knitalong(KAL)?
A KAL is when several people knit the same thing at the same time. It is like a class, but more casual. There is more encouragement than education. Liz helps you with techniques that might be new to you or reviewing things you may have forgotten. She will also have a few tips and tricks to share.
When does it meet?
This Knitalong group meets Wednesday at 7pm Central Time on Zoom, starting on September 2 and ending on September 23.
What yarn do I need?
The shawl calls for two contrasting skeins of fingering weight yarn. The designer's sample uses a light and a dark color. Yours doesn't have to have that much contrast, but I would stay clear of our really variegated yarns which will distract from the stitches.
You could pick two skeins of the new Migration. Take a look at Old Rose with Bronze Green or Dark Night with Storm Cloud or Salmon Sunset with Espresso.
There are also pretty choices in Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere if you are looking for something brighter like Sweet and Small with the Veil is Drawn?
Or maybe you want a cozy, classic look with Woolfolk Tynd (make sure you get two skeins of each color since Tynd comes in 50g skeins). How about 00 with 16?
If you see something you like grab it. If not, give us a call and we'll put something together just for you.
You will also need the pattern and size 5 and 7 24" circular needles. Longer needles would work too.
How do I sign up?
To register, buy two contrasting skeins of the yarns listed above. Include a note that you are interested in the knitalong when you checkout. On September 2, we will send you the Zoom link so you can join in.
Everyone is welcome
This knitalong is open to everyone. We put it together to support people who have taken Knit 101 and have been knitting for less than a year. But I imagine even some experienced knitters are a little overwhelmed by life right now would benefit from an easier project and some human interaction. Join us.
