Newish Knitter KAL - January -  Thotful Spot Hand Warmers

Date(s): January 8, 15 and 22

Time: 7:00-8:30pm-ish

Location: The comfort of your own location - this is a zoom class

Instructor: Liz Daly

Description:

Our Newish Knitter KAL is for knitters who have finished Knit101 and Knit 102 and are wondering what to knit next.  All of these patterns are great places to practice your stitches and learn how to read patterns.  This KAL is also for more experienced knitters who want to socialize with others while knitting a project where you can knit and chat at the same time.

In January we will be meeting starting the SECOND Wednesday of the month.  We will be making these mitts that are knit flat and then seamed.  They have a great pattern at the top and bottom and are easily customized to make the mitts that you like.

There is no charge for this virtual get-together, however, we ask that you purchase yarn from the store for this project.    When you purchase your yarn write in the comments section that you would like to be added to the KAL!   Don't worry if you can't make all of the sessions.  We'd love to have you when you can make it.

Supplies:

  • Purchase and download the pattern Thotful Spot Hand Warmers by Sarah Schira
  • US 4 straight or circular needles.  Since we will be knitting flat any length will do but I think 24" circular needle will be the most comfortable to knit. You might need to adjust the size of your needle based on how you personally knit.
  • We are recommending 1 skein of Cautiva by Wooldreamers or other sport weight yarn.
  • Basic knitting supplies
  • BONUS! - If you would like to knit a thumb onto your mitts please purchase DPNs (Double Pointed Needles) in the same size you knit your mitt and during week 2 or 3 we will go over picking up stitches and knitting a thumb.

Homework: Have your yarn and needles ready.

Prerequisites: Be comfortable knitting and purling

Your yarn makes a positive impact

By purchasing yarn from String Theory, you’re lifting up a number of small and female-owned businesses. We help women in Rwanda, who survived the genocide, educate a new generation. We help women in Uruguay find meaningful work without leaving their rural homes. We help a family in New Hampshire maintain a mill, a tradition spanning hundreds of years. We help restore the Patagonia Grasslands by encouraging sustainable farming.Every yarn we stock makes a positive impact.
