By purchasing yarn from String Theory, you’re lifting up a number of small and female-owned businesses. We help women in Rwanda, who survived the genocide, educate a new generation. We help women in Uruguay find meaningful work without leaving their rural homes. We help a family in New Hampshire maintain a mill, a tradition spanning hundreds of years. We help restore the Patagonia Grasslands by encouraging sustainable farming.Every yarn we stock makes a positive impact.
Saona
Saona is the name of the river where my grandfather, Julian, and his two sons; Teodoro and Ramón, would bring their mule-drawn cart full of wool fleeces. There, they spent the days washing the wool and allowing it to dry on the banks of the river in preparation for carding, spinning, and weaving to make blankets in the family mill.
A tribute to previous generations, this collection brings a yarn full of nuances both in its texture and tones.
The colors in this collection have been designed in collaboration with Hailey Smedley (@Ozetta). Her work and herself, like our project, are also inspired by family traditions, rooted in her love for her grandmother who taught her to knit.
