Socks 101

Date(s):  May 15, 22 and 29

Time:  7:00 pm - 8:30 pm Central Time

Location:  String Theory Yarn Company

Instructor: Meg

Description:
Socks are a great portable project, perfect for spring and summer on-the-go knitting. Make a pair of shorty socks this summer, and they'll be ready for the fall. Meg will lead you through the heel turn, the toe decreases and the finishing touches, using Tin Can Knits' Everyday Socks pattern, available on Ravelry. Along the way, we'll talk about different ways to knit in the round and share tips for easier circular knitting.

Materials: Fingering or DK weight yarn, enough to make a pair of socks in the size of your choosing. Although the pattern offers directions for heavier yarns, we find that thicker socks don't fit so well in shoes. We suggest a high-twist yarn such as Laneras, or a yarn with a little nylon blended in for durability.
DPNs or circular needles in a size that will give you a good gauge. Most people knit fingering weight socks on US 0-2 and DK weight on US 3-4.
Homework: Purchase the Everyday Socks pattern. Knit a gauge swatch in the round, read the pattern and mark the numbers pertaining to the size you plan to knit. Cast on and knit one inch of cuff in 2x2 ribbing.

Your yarn makes a positive impact

By purchasing yarn from String Theory, you’re lifting up a number of small and female-owned businesses. We help women in Rwanda, who survived the genocide, educate a new generation. We help women in Uruguay find meaningful work without leaving their rural homes. We help a family in New Hampshire maintain a mill, a tradition spanning hundreds of years. We help restore the Patagonia Grasslands by encouraging sustainable farming.Every yarn we stock makes a positive impact.
