November Newish Knitter Knitalong
One of the questions that we get most often from newer knitters is "What should I knit next?" So we designed the Newish Knitter Knitalong to answer that question for you.
What are we going to make in November?
The project for the next Newish Knitter Knitalong is A Good Scarf by Barbara Benson. This is a rectangular scarf created by knitting the same row over and over. This one row creates a scarf that is completely reversible - like magic.
What is a knitalong(KAL)?
A KAL is when several people knit the same thing at the same time. It is like a class, but more casual. There is more encouragement than education.
Each month a different project is chosen for you to practice stitches you already know and add one or two more new stitches to your repertoire. In order to get better at anything and to gain confidence at anything is to practice. This is a casual group and there is no homework and no pressure. This hour we are together we think of as an escape from the rest of the world.
Liz has something different to show you each week and you are able to ask any knitting question you like. If you need something demonstrated she's there. If you need to see it again and again until it clicks, no problem.
It is meant as a weekly group but if you have something going on and you have to miss one or two that’s ok.
When does it meet?
This Knitalong group meets Wednesday at 7pm Central Time on Zoom, starting on November 4 and ending on November 18.
What yarn do I need?
The scarf calls for 200 grams (two skeins) of DK Weight Yarn but feel free to use anything from Sportweight to Worsted, just adjust your needle size to get a fabric you like.
You could pick two skeins of Neighborhood Fiber Co DK or Migration Journey or Malabrigo Susurro (if wool is too warm for you). Our picture shows Dream in Color Classy so you can see how great this scarf looks with a variegated yarn. The other picture is Handspun Hope Angora blend for a bit of luxury.. Malabrigo Rios works too. Our newest alpaca/wool blend, Weepaca would be so soft. (Weepaca comes in 50g skeins so you would need 4.)
If you see something you like grab it. If not, give us a call and we'll put something together just for you.
You will also need the pattern and size 7 or 8 straight or 24" circular needles. Longer needles would work too.
How do I sign up?
Sign up by clicking here. There is no charge, but we ask that you purchase your yarn for this project at String Theory. On November 3, we will send you the Zoom link so you can join in.
Everyone is welcome
This knitalong is open to everyone. We put it together to support people who have taken Knit 101 and have been knitting for less than a year. But I imagine even some experienced knitters are a little overwhelmed by life right now would benefit from an easier project and some human interaction. Join us.
